Freight instructor and Glide Memorial Church’s Music Director Zoë Ellis, along with Music Historian and Glide Memorial Church’s Audio Video Director Mark Montgomery French, curates a narrated musical and visual tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. with adventurous reimaginings of classic Civil Rights-focused songs from the ’60s through right now.

Berkeley native Zoë Ellis is the Music Director for Glide Memorial Church. She co-founded the Freight Singers Community Chorus with Bryan Dyer, teaches singing for all levels at The Freight, and is a regular contributor to The Freight’s Golden State of Song arts immersion program. She is also a longtime recording artist/performer in her own right.

Mark Montgomery French

Musician and visual artist Mark Montgomery French is an award-winning film composer with the group Spiky Blimp, host of the podcast “All Your Favorite Music is (Probably)…”, and Director of Audio Visual at Glide Memorial Church. In June 2025, he released his ambient protest album Thy Navel is a Goblet That Does Not Lack for Wine. He’s also a music historian noted for his talks All Your Favorite Music is (Probably) Black, Unsung Women of Music, and Black Country Before Beyoncé. He was formerly the co-leader of the ’90s progressive funk band Endangered Species.
